Martha Karua the iron lady from Gichugu constituency in Kirinyaga County was the only face from the One Kenya Alliance (OKA) who failed to attend the Azimio la Umoja NDC at KICC, kicking up a fresh storm as to whether she’s could be headed to deputy president William Ruto’s Kenya Kwanza (KK) alliance.

Her colleagues in the alliance led by Kalonzo Musyoka attended the function, others were Gideon Moi and Cyrus Jirongo.

Martha Karua had earlier warned that OKA would neither be “coerced nor bullied” into joining any political alliances that aren’t in tandem with the OKA’s manifesto and aspirations. Speaking in her usual stern no-nonsense tone, she appeared to be directing attacks at both President Uhuru Kenyatta and the ODM leader Raila Odinga, accusing both of seeking to impose leaders on Kenyans.

As Raila Odinga flew out of the country over the weekend for a five-day visit to the UK, many in the Azimio camp believe that they have cut the ground under the feet of DP William Ruto and that his emotional outburst against president Kenyatta in Kiambu over the weekend was a clear sign he has panicked

This forced Raila Odinga to come out refuting those allegations, stating Azimio was a coalition of the “willing” and nobody would be coerced into joining the formation. She repeatedly told Uhuru and Raila that OKA would not tolerate “opaqueness” but support a clear road map to a workable coalition to win the next election.

As Raila Odinga flew out of the country over the weekend for a five-day visit to the UK, many in the Azimio camp believe that they have cut the ground under the feet of the DP William Ruto and that his emotional outburst against president Kenyatta in Kiambu over the weekend was a clear sign he has panicked.

For several months now, opinion pollsters have ranked him top as the country heads to the August elections. A chest-thumping DP kept on telling all around him “huyu mtu wa kitendawili” (this man of fairy tales” should accept defeat.

Ruto is convinced he will carry the day despite the massive conspiracy to stop him in his tracks, but many say there is every reason for the DP to worry about the new formation sponsored by president Kenyatta.
