With barely ten months to the elections, the country’s Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) is yet to open the disputed French-based servers that were in use for the 2017 elections.

This has already cast a heavy shadow on the integrity among participants in the coming elections, with the use of BVR equipment in the transmission of results electronically. The results are fed into one main server that is housed in France, why not in Kenya? Many have kept pondering!

MP Otiende Amollo also a lawyer for NASA’s Raila Odinga stunned the supreme court with claims that a “mathematical algorithm” had been introduced in the computer software at tallying centres in which the software “automatically added candidate Uhuru Kenyatta figures and sub-attracted Mr Odinga’s votes

During the Supreme Court’s Presidential petition hearing ex-Chief, Justice David Maraga ordered that “servers” containing critical raw data be made public. But lawyer Paul Muite for the IEBC claimed French ICT experts in Paris were “asleep” at the time! He said this was due to different time zones and the matter seemed to rest there. Five years later, many are asking whether the French experts are still asleep! Others have queried IEBC tender awards for printing ballot materials and computer software. Many are warning that rigging starts with “manipulating” results at tallying centres. There are wide fears that the 2017 alleged electoral fraud engineered by computer software experts could be repeated in 2022.

MP Otiende Amollo also a lawyer for NASA’s Raila Odinga stunned the supreme court with claims that a “mathematical algorithm” had been introduced in the computer software at tallying centres. He claimed the software “automatically added candidate Uhuru Kenyatta figures and sub-attracted Mr Odinga’s votes. Raila Odinga claimed that the system generated “vifaranga vya computer” (computer-generated figures!). The only way to verify this would have been for the opening of the main server with the raw data at every polling station. It never happened.

As Maraga overturned the 2017 election victory of Kenyatta, many observers conceded the alleged fraud was one of the “smartest” acts of rigging witnessed in the 21st century! Now fears are rife that elections can still be “stolen” using the same tactics! This time around it’s deputy president William Ruto who is voicing fears of rigging!
