Ford Kenya party leader Senator Moses Wetangula has rubbished claims of doing business with a Greek firm contracted by the IEBC to print ballot papers for the 9th August elections.

Mr Wetangula spoke in Trans Nzoia County during a series of political rallies to drum up support for his Presidential Candidate DP William Ruto, he said the report carried by the Daily Nation to that effect was false.

Wetangula asked those who were dragging him in the mud to keep him off their wild dreams.  I haven’t been in any business relationship with IEBC or the firm awarded the tender to print ballot papers and there is no relationship with someone being linked to me ‘’, he said. He told the ODM team led by Junet Mohamed who had alleged that he and Kenya Kwanza planned to rig the elections to concentrate on something else since whatever they were advancing would backfire on them.

The ODM leaders had alleged, according to the story carried by the Daily Nation that the Senator had relations with one Joshua Abdalla Makokha whom they alleged sought the Senator’s assistance to travel to Greece. The report claimed that the Senator’s aide met with officials of the Greek company in June 2021.

Senator Wetangula addressed political rallies in Sinoko, Bwayi, Saboti and Kiminini, during the rallies; he tore into those peddling the malicious rumour and said he had instructed his lawyers to take action against the Daily Nation

Makokha, according to the report travelled to Athens to meet the officials. ‘’ is a total diversion from the real election issues, Watu wa kuzimia ( Azimio people ) should tell us how they plan to deal with the runaway corruption, high cost of living, state capture and conflict of interests in the running of the country ‘’, he said. Senator Wetangula addressed political rallies in Sinoko, Bwayi, Saboti and Kiminini, during the rallies; he tore into those peddling the malicious rumour and said he had instructed his lawyers to take action against the Daily Nation. “If any letters were written on letterheads indicating they are from the Bungoma senator’s office, they must be forgeries!! I have never written such letters. I do not and I repeat, I do not know the three foreigners being referred to,” Mr Wetang’ula said.

On Tuesday, Azimio Secretary-General Junet Mohamed called on IEBC, the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission and the Directorate of Criminal Investigations to immediately begin investigations on the senator’s relationship with Inform Lykos (Hellas) SA and take action to protect the election from any form of interference. He also demanded that IEBC make public information on measures they have put in place to ensure there will be no lapse during the election.

Mr Wetang’ula is alleged to have invited Awa David Anderson, Antonio Ramon Fernandez and Gkrekis Konstantinos to Kenya for a week from January 14, 2021. On June 10, he is also alleged to have written to the Greek Ambassador to Kenya Antonio’s Sgourpoulos to grant Joshua Abdalla Makokha a Schengen visa so he could travel to Athens, Greece.

The request was made just two months before the company was awarded the tender by IEBC. Ford Kenya Secretary Chris Wamalwa who is the Kenya Kwanza Trans Nzoia gubernatorial candidate exuded confidence saying the residents of Trans Nzoia County will overwhelmingly elect him as their second governor.

The MP claimed that his rival had a hand in the recent road accidents among them one in Kiminini which claimed the life of a woman who was roasting maize by the roadside. ‘’Pray for me so that the accidents targeting me are destroyed. I blame my competitor for the misfortunes which were aimed at finishing me’’, he said in an area called Mufutu.

Chris Wamalwa will battle it out against his main rival, former Rift Valley regional commissioner George Natembeya of Azimio la Umoja who is traversing all corners of the county seeking support from the electorate to succeed outgoing governor Patrick Khaemba. Mr Natembeya has near-fanatical support from the Jubilee Party, Democratic Action Party of Kenya allied to Defense CS Eugene Wamalwa and ODM of Azimio Presidential flag bearer Raila Odinga.

Mr Wamalwa is banking on the support of Deputy President William Ruto, Ford Kenya leader Moses Wetang’ula and his ANC counterpart Musalia Mudavadi. He urged his rivals to carry out peaceful campaigns and avoid derogatory and incendiary language throughout the campaign. He promised to establish a Fertilizer Fund which he said will cushion farmers against harsh economic conditions.
