Uhuru and DP Ruto are on opposing sides in Kiambaa parliamentary race

A visibly happy DP Ruto was seen chatting with his ally Kuria perhaps plotting another devastating defeat on President Uhuru in the Kiambaa by-election

Hopes by opponents that deputy president (DP) William Ruto’s team would contest the Kiambaa parliamentary by-election as a divided house has snowballed into a “storm in a teacup”! This follows a meeting by fire-spitting Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria and DP Ruto at his Karen home on Monday where they held day-long discussions.
This meeting crushed all hopes on the part of President Uhuru’s top strategists who had hoped for an easy win in Kiambaa, a Jubilee party home-turf.

At one stage a while ago an agitated President Uhuru once referred to his feuding critics in central Kenya as “washenzi hawa” as he launched projects with his handshake partner Raila Odinga in Kisumu. Uhuru will return to Kisumu to preside over Madaraka day celebrations

Now President Kenyatta top aides are back to the drawing board to plot what could be one of the fiercest by-elections in recent times. The DP is now united behind a UDA candidate to face off Uhuru’s side already sensing a repeat of Juja embarrassing defeat to little known PEP party. This now clears the stage for a bare-knuckled rivalry for political supremacy with the President telling his aides “defeat in Kiambaa was not an option” they should entertain!
Kuria, who is Uhuru’s home county MP has constantly accused the president of running down the Mount Kenya economy and taking his central Kenya supporters for granted.

President Kenyatta has tasked his campaigners to deliver Kiambaa “without fail” or face unforeseen consequences.
Kuria announced that his People’s Empowerment Party had withdrawn from the Kiambaa by-election to support the UDA candidate.
In an announcement early today May 24, Kuria said had agreed to keep Tanga Tanga united in the Kiambaa duel. He said he had earlier deferred with Mathira MP Rigathi Gachagua and Kikuyu MP Kimani Ichung’wa on support to UDA.
Speaking after issuing certificates to candidates who will contest for Muguga ward and Kiambaa constituency, Mathira MP Rigathi Gachaguam had declared that only UDA would fly the hustler flag.
“We are sending a clear message out there that everyone who wants to be part of us will fly the UDA party. UDA is the only party for hustlers,” Gachagua said. In his response, Kuria dismissed Gachagua saying that his party would field candidates in both Muguga and Kiambaa.
UDA party Secretary-General Veronica Maina on Friday awarded nomination certificates to John Njuguna Wanjiku and Kamau Thumbi for Kiambaa and Muguga respectively. Maina said the party will commence campaigns for the two seats.
