“It is wrong for the Deputy President to have done what he did to me after I had paid for the life membership in the party and nomination fees only to be short-changed in favour of someone from outside Kiminini’’, -Mr Khaoya

A United Democratic Alliance (UDA) parliamentary aspirant in Trans Nzoia County has hit at Deputy President William Ruto for short-changing him in favour of bishop Julius Mbagaya. Mr Yohah Khaoya, son of former assistant minister for agriculture Joseph Wafula Khaoya, had pitched a tent in the constituency for much of last year trying to endear himself to the electorate to solidify his support base. He intended to compete against Bishop Mbagaya and others on a UDA ticket.

Kitale businessman Yonah Khaoya who was denied the UDA nominees has slammed Deputy President William Ruto for messing up the nomination process

It is wrong for the Deputy President to have done what he did to me after I had paid for the life membership in the party and nomination fees only to be short-changed in favour of someone from outside Kiminini’’, he said. Mr Khaoya told The Weekly Vision in an interview that he had spent time and Millions of shillings in the last two years, only to be short-changed.

He said he had for the last two years tried to popularize his candidature and that of the Party leader only to be rewarded with the worst gift of ingratitude. “I am giving the Deputy President’s secretariat which includes the chairman, three days to explain to me what informed them on denying me a party ticket in favour of someone else who is an absentee resident’’, he said.

He slammed Ruto for giving aspirants false promises of not giving any candidate preferential treatment, saying instead, the Deputy President had backtracked on his promise and went ahead eating his own words. Mr Khaoya said that he was shocked to be locked outside the Deputy President’s official residence and the Hustler centre.

‘’ A top party official told me point blank that I should forget about being given the party’s nod to vie in Kiminini, advising me to shelve my interest in favour of Mbagaya’’, he said. He said it was hypocritical to demand nomination fees from aspirants only to subject them to such inhuman treatment. He has vowed to take a different path which he said will dim the party’s hopes of bagging the seat during the August 9 polls.

He said: We may decide to abandon the bottom up and start walking and Kuzimia (Azimio) instead of remaining in the same house with a thankless political grouping out to misuse us. The businessman said he will crisscross the Constituency in popularizing the name of Azimio la Umoja Presidential flag bearer Raila Odinga and the Coalition’s Trans Nzoia gubernatorial Candidate George Natembeya.

“This is what the second liberation hero Masinde Muliro meant when he said Democracy had been left to escape through a window. Ruto has proved to us that our community is not needed and that is why his henchmen are doing this to us’’, he said. He maintained that there were no UDA nominations in Trans Nzoia, claiming that all tickets were directly given to members of one ethnic group.
