By The Weekly Vision

Kakamega County Governor Wycliffe Oparanya has urged KRA to waive tax on a detained oxygen plant at the port of Mombasa saying it is critical for Covid -19 patients battling for life in ICUs.

The governor appeal to the National Treasury to intervene and solve the tax standoff so the machine can be released to cater for growing cases.

The Kenya Ports Authority has declined to release the life-saving oxygen machines over a huge accrued tax bill. The machine is a new 1000 litre per minute oxygen plant that Kakamega county had acquired. The contractor who was retained to acquire the oxygen plant is unable to pay the tax.
