Trans Nzoia County Commissioner (CC), Sam Ojwang has challenged chiefs and their assistants to step up the war against illicit brews in the region. Mr Ojwang said that chiefs and their assistants are the government’s eyes at the grass-root level and therefore it is their responsibility to guarantee the eradication of illicit brews in their area of jurisdiction.

He warned the local administrators against sleeping on the job that they risked being summarily dismissed. “Chiefs and their assistants must remain vigilant in the fight against illicit brews and those who sympathize with the brewers will be shown the door,” said Ojwang.

The County Commissioner revealed that the two suspended police officers will be subjected to an investigation aimed at weeding out acts of unprofessionalism in the service

The CC was speaking at his office yesterday during a meeting with the county security team. He called on the chiefs and their assistants to step up their fight against the vice with the help of the residents through the Nyumba Kumi clusters in the county.

He observed that it was high time those engaged in the production and sale of the illicit brews abandoned the practice in favour of alternative income-generating activities and warned that soon the law will be catching up with them.

“Already two security officers based here in Trans Nzoia have been interdicted over rampant habits of drunkenness that had hampered their effectiveness in their line of duty”, he said.

He revealed that the two will be subjected to an investigation aimed at weeding out acts of unprofessionalism in the police service.

The administrator said the government was committed to eradicating illicit brews and warned that the government was not a rehabilitation facility to condone behaviours of such officers in uniform.
