- Ms Karua said that there will be no room for the corrupt who steal billions of shillings from public coffers with impunity and bravado and then go out to brag and display their ill-gotten wealth to the country’s poor
Raila Odinga’s running mate in the Presidential race Ms Martha Karua has said that she will be at the forefront of the fight against corruption in the country if the Azimio One Kenya Alliance forms the next government. She was speaking at an Azimio la Umoja rally in Mombasa; she vowed zero tolerance against graft once she assumes her role as CS.
Ms Karua said that there will be no room for the corrupt who steal billions of shillings from public coffers with impunity and bravado then go out to brag and display their ill-gotten wealth to the country’s poor. Ms Karua is also likely to double up as the Cabinet Secretary for Justice and Constitutional Affairs if Raila Odinga becomes president.
She said: “As we head towards the general elections, I kindly request fellow Kenyans to give our team the mandate to form the next government. We are determined to clean up the rot and corruption that are holding our beloved nation at ransom. Corruption is killing the sweat, determination, struggles and aspirations of our people and the nation at large. The women and the youths of our country are the worst affected and those corrupt individuals want to keep them in abject slavery as they smile to the bank.”
“As I speak to you now, Baba (Raila Odinga) has already assured me that I will be in charge of the Justice and Constitutional Affairs Ministry docket if we form the next government. You all know that when it comes to carrying out tasks I brook no nonsense. The work a head must be carried out in a professional manner with precision and total integrity, not through corrupt deals. We must safeguard and protect public interests, not use our positions to loot public coffers.”
“You all know me well, I don’t joke around, nor do I play around when it comes to carrying out tasks. I must deliver to the best of my abilities by serving the public not to line up my pockets with public money,” she said. This will be the second time the ministry of Justice and Constitutional Affairs will be back at the cabinet level after being scrapped during retired President Kibaki’s 1st term in office whose holder then was none other than Martha Karua.
