Musalia Mudavadi claimed that Raila Odinga declined to refund him the billions of shillings he spent during the campaigns in the 2017 general elections
The source said that after the State House fallout with the president, the ANC leader’s bank accounts were frozen; he could not access any funds to run a presidential campaign
CBK told Musalia Mudavadi that they were investigating suspected money laundering activities in his bank accounts
Amani National Congress (ANC) party leader Musalia Mudavadi is said to have rebelled in burning anger against Uhuru Kenyatta after the president tried to railroad him into supporting Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party leader Raila Odinga in this year’s Presidential elections.
This Weekly Vision investigations team can authoritatively reveal that Musalia was so incensed at the president’s unrelenting pressure to support Mr Odinga’s presidential bid that he stormed out of State House in anger. He had earlier told the President that Mr Odinga has never appreciated his (Musalia’s) efforts, in a mundane manner at his back-breaking work during the last elections. He claimed Raila Odinga declined to refund him billions of shillings he allegedly spent during the campaigns in the 2017 general elections.
The ANC party leader was Mr Odinga’s running-mate during the 2007 general elections just like he was under President Kenyatta in 2002. Musalia is said to have spent huge financial resources said to run into billions of shillings and energy campaigning for Mr Odinga. They lost the elections but what followed was like a fist not a slap in his face. An insider within the ANC party who cannot be named because of the sensitivity of the matter said: “Mr Mudavadi thinks that the 2022 presidential election business currently being played out is like a fiddle by both Odinga and Kenyatta.
Mudavadi was so angry at the suggestion by President Uhuru Kenyatta and told him to his face that he was a seasoned and respected national leader who had made his mark on Kenya’s political landscape and that he would make his own decisions as a man and a leader.” The source said that this happened at State House Nairobi long before he declared his alliance with President Uhuru Kenyatta’s rebel Deputy William Ruto. The source said that after the State House fallout with the president, the ANC leader’s bank accounts were frozen; he could not access any funds to run a presidential campaign. We established that as soon as this happened Mr Mudavadi travelled to Europe to try and wire back some funds from his accounts in Europe.

Sources at the ANC party told us that the Central Bank of Kenya (CBK) and the Treasury declined to sanction the transaction, saying they were investigating suspected money laundering activities on Musalia’s bank accounts: “We received clear orders that the money, most of it in the Dollar, Sterling Pounds and Euros denominations should be frozen until further notice“. I cannot tell you the source of the orders because they are very powerful people. Ours is simply to obey orders and execute them without questions otherwise you will be in trouble.” This meant that the ANC leader was financially crippled; he could not make any earth-shaking move in his bid at running for the presidency on August 9th, 2022.
“I do not know how you are going to report this matter because we know this is a highly sensitive issue that can easily provoke the anger of the powers that be, they orchestrated and are executing the move even now as we speak’’. The Weekly Vision Investigative team has established that it was after the freezing of his bank accounts in Kenya that Mr Musalia Mudavadi decided that he was safer in the hands of Deputy President William Ruto, they formed a political alliance soon after, it was in protest against the president.
Mudavadi’s handler since his days as Vice Presidency said: “I have worked with MM (Musalia Mudavadi) for more than three decades and I have never seen him this angry either in his political/public or personal life. They annoyed him deeply and he is still very angry at President Kenyatta and Mr Odinga.” The source went on: “He has used his resources, energy, time, and influence without a token of appreciation from both of them, for how long must he continue sacrificing at the behest of powerful individuals?” Musalia was also not happy with how Raila Odinga handled his negotiations with President Kenyatta which culminated in the ‘’handshake’’ in 2018.
