Deputy President William Ruto broke down and wept profusely after watching his boss President Uhuru Kenyatta openly campaigning for Raila Odinga on Live TV while wearing the Azmio outfit with a matching cap and shirt, sources at the DP’s Karen home divulged.

As President Kenyatta waved to cheering crowds in Kariobangi last week, asking them to show whether they will vote for Baba on August 9th, an emotional Ruto “could take it no more” breaking down and weeping profusely, asking; “Is this the man I helped thrice to capture state power against the same fellow he is now openly campaigning for?”

The DP is often given to emotional breakdowns like when in 2015 as he recounted his tribulations at the hands of the ICC prosecutor in The Hague based court before a church congregation in Nairobi, he repeatedly wept and had to be calmed down by his wife, Rachael

The DP has since 2018 been a virtual “outsider” inside Kenya’s cabinet after a political truce between Kenyatta and Raila Odinga blossomed into a cosy political bromance that has seen the two men cement political alliance to the point of the opposition leader becoming “heir apparent.”

Indeed, Ruto allies ANC leader Musalia Mudavadi and FORD Kenya boss Moses Wetengula have repeatedly told off the president to play a neutral role in his succession politics and stop acting like Mr Odinga’s “campaign manager”.

The two men allied to Ruto’s Kenya Kwanza alliance have accused Kenyatta of diverting state resources to campaign for Raila Odinga’s Azimio la Umoja. Mr Raila Odinga many people say stands the best chance ever of clinching the presidency.

Sources were categorical that Ruto is far from throwing in the towel and as he told a rally in Uhuru’s Gatundu backyard, he has forgiven Kenyatta and left everything to God, a clear ominous sign that the two men have completely parted ways. Yet Ruto continues to be second in command waving aside opposition demands that he resign since he is the leader of the UDA is in violation of the political party’s act.

Ruto says he alongside the president were elected by more than 8 million Kenyans, and just like the president, he intends to stick around until August 9th. Raila Odinga and his team are almost certain of forming the next government.

The DP has challenged Kenyatta to step aside and stop shielding Mr Odinga, taunting him to stop “hiding” behind the president and instead face him “like a man”. “Wachana na Uhuru Kenyatta he is not a candidate in the next poll let him conclude his last term in peace instead face me,” a charged Ruto told Odinga before cheering supporters in Gatundu.
