Two Tanzanian nationals are being held by police for questioning in connection with the trafficking of 51 illegal Ethiopian migrants into the country, police said. The Dodoma regional police commander Mr Onesmo Lyanga, said the two suspects were arrested on Sunday in Biteko village in Kondoa district.

“The duo was arrested while they were ferrying the Ethiopian illegal migrants in a truck,” Lyanga told a press conference in Dodoma. He said the truck ferrying the Ethiopian migrants was intercepted at a roadblock along the Kondoa-Arusha highway, adding that the truck was heading to the Iringa region from the Kilimanjaro region. Mr Lyanga said police are also investigating to establish a syndicate that is behind human trafficking. “The syndicate will be dismantled and its members prosecuted,” warned the police official. Adam Mkuyu, a senior immigration official for the Dodoma region, appealed to members of the public to collaborate with law enforcers in identifying human traffickers.
