The now missing ambulance seconded to Sio-Port Sub-County hospital is reportedly being detained over the failure by the County Government of Busia to clear accrued bills owed to a garage contracted to repair most of the county fleet of vehicles.
Anti-Gender-Based Violence activist Bettyline Nekesa who also doubles up as Samia Sub-county Maendeleo ya Wanawake chairperson said that women were the most affected for lack of access to the ambulance. She said this while addressing mourners recently during the funeral of Mzee William Okumu Achoka at his Busanja village home in Samia Sub-county.

‘’We have seen most of our mothers and sisters facing complications during delivery, taking long hours to be referred to better-equipped health facilities due to unavailability of an ambulance, ‘’ she said, adding that sometimes patients are forced to wait for more than one day waiting for an ambulance from Port –Victoria Sub-County hospital.
For several months now, the hospital management has been forced to seek help from their neighbours, Port Victoria Sub-County hospital in case of emergencies.
Bettyline who has been vocal over the issue of the detained Ambulance, at one time took issue with area MCA, Evans Barasa, accusing him of laxity and incompetence.
‘’as a women leader, I will not relent in my efforts to fight for the rights of our mothers, I also urge all other women of goodwill to come forward and join this struggle’’ she quipped. At the same function, reverend Khahubi of the Anglican Church of Kenya sought to know from area MCA, why it’s only in Busanja village that has got the most pathetic road connection. ‘’ Why is it that it’s only our village which has a poor road network, is it because we don’t pay taxes like others or we are in Uganda?’’
