The DP and his wife Rachel attest to being “born-again” Christians with a huge following from evangelical churches that have received millions from him in the last four years
Embattled deputy president Dr William Ruto has appealed to church leaders to help him get elected president on August 9th saying he has been giving generously to God’s work.
Ruto lashed out at his main detractors of being “anti-church” for constantly criticizing him for donating millions to the churches, saying the same people want to get elected so they can “muzzle” the voice of the church.
He was speaking at a church function in Muranga County. The DP and his wife Rachel attest to being “born-again” Christians with a huge following from evangelical churches that have received millions from him in the last four years. His main challenger, former Prime Minister Raila Odinga has in the past accused the DP of “lavishing proceeds of corruption” on churches in a bid to launder ill-gotten wealth while securing an unfair spiritual advantage over his rivals.
At one time Raila Odinga demanded an “audit” on the source of the millions the DP dishes out in churches every week. The lavish donations from the DP appear to have petered out lately.
President Uhuru Kenyatta lashed out at church leaders for receiving millions from Ruto, claiming it was “stolen money” from stalled Kimwarer and Arrwor dams. Speaking in his Kikuyu vernacular, Kenyatta warned church leaders that they would burn in hell!
But church leaders told him off saying he was not “God” to purport to know who will burn in hell and who goes to heaven saying the Bible was clear about not being “judgmental” on spiritual matters.
