Raila Odinga Will Beat Ruto In The Presidential Election-Karanja Kibicho

Principal Secretary Karanja Kibicho

The Principal Secretary for Interior argued that his observation is based on the data at his disposal adding that Kenyans will not have to strain its budget on a runoff, insisting that Mr Odinga will win the vote in round one

Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Alliance Presidential candidate Raila Odinga will win the Presidency by more than 60 per cent against his closest rival, rebel Deputy President William Ruto. Ruto will trail Mr Odinga with 40 per cent.

This interesting revelation was made by Principal Secretary Karanja Kibicho in a TV interview, he said that the country will not have to strain its budget in a runoff, insisting that Mr Odinga will win the vote in round one. He spoke during a live interview on Citizen TV hosted by Waihiga Mwaura on Tuesday, May 31st, a rare live TV appearance by him.

PS Kibicho also supported his counterpart (ICT) Cabinet Secretary Joe Mucheru, who had predicted earlier that Mr Odinga would overwhelmingly defeat his closest rival, Deputy President Ruto in the first round of polling

The revelation by Mr Kibicho came in the wake of Mr Odinga surging ahead of DP Ruto in privately conducted opinion polls showing Mr Odinga maintaining the lead immediately after picking NARC – K leader Martha Karua as his running mate. The Principal Secretary argued that his observation is based on the data at his disposal. Mr Kibicho is privy to a lot of information being the Principal Secretary for Interior, virtually all state intelligence agencies are under his docket.

Kibicho supported his counterpart (ICT) Cabinet Secretary, Joe Mucheru, who had predicted that Mr Odinga would overwhelmingly defeat his closest rival, Deputy President Ruto in the first round of polling. Supporting that observation Mr Kibicho said: “We don’t speak from emotions, these are facts. If you asked me, for example, what the data is saying today, and because I am entitled to my answer as a public servant, I will give it to you as it is without spicing it up.” He continued: “You were told here by CS Mucheru what the intelligence data says, a 60 per cent win in the first round for Odinga/Karua. There is a difference between rumours and facts. Noisemakers even use photo shops to fool Kenyans. For us, we don’t deal with those perceptions.

The Principal Secretary defended CS Mucheru who came under heavy criticism for allegedly supporting Mr Odinga’s Presidential bid when he is supposed to be neutral as a senior public servant. Mr Kibicho said that the burden of proof shifts to rivals who have to counter the information provided if they doubt it. He pointed out: “If the data you have given me is misleading then come up with another and indicate where you have received it. You cannot criminalize someone for giving you the information you asked for.”

C.S. Mucheru on Inooro TV last weekend said: “I don’t think we will go for round two, I think it will be decided in round one based on what data numbers currently show and what people are saying. Mr Odinga will emerge tops. That’s what I see, as Mucheru and not as the government. This is based on personal experience and what I can see. Polls already show Azimio is in the lead, that is where I’m getting my data, it is not like we are depending on any other data.”

The CS made it clear that he had a right to support his candidate of choice, a basic constitutional right that he similarly shared with Kibicho. PS Kibicho told Citizen TV: “It’s upon me to choose what I keep secret and what I keep open in my life. I have chosen not to keep my preference a secret. Every civil servant, including ministers, has a voter’s card. They will go to the ballot to vote.”He further refuted reports claiming that there was a plan to rig the votes as alleged by the Kenya Kwanza alliance presided over by the rebel Deputy President. “None whatsoever and there cannot be. The will of the people shall prevail. President Uhuru Kenyatta respects the law and democracy and everyone knows that he cannot sit in a certain corner to manipulate the will of the people,” he said. The Principal Secretary continued: “On the Power transition – there is a secretary to the Cabinet, only that he is doubling as Head of Public Service, he will be the one who will convene the assumption of office committee.” Rebel Deputy President hardline minders have since gone public declaring that they are also targeting to bag 60 per cent of the ballot cast on August 9th, 2022 to ensure that their kingpin gets enthroned into State House at the end of that poll
