Mr Odinga was welcomed by his ODM deputy party leader Wycliffe Oparanya, former cabinet ministers Dr Noah Wekesa, Trans Nzoia County assembly speaker Joshua Werunga, former Minister Fred Gumo and ANC nominated Godfrey Osotsi among others
ODM leader Raila Odinga was accorded a grand reception today after he landed in Trans-Nzoia County to market his Azimio la Umoja campaigns. Raila started his public rally at Sibanga trading centre a place some people consider as Deputy President William Ruto’s political bedroom where a huge crowd welcomed him.
The former premier’s chopper landed at Sirwo resort owned by former Maendeleo Ya Wanawake Organization MYWO chairwoman Zipporah Kittony who is allied to KANU chairman Gideon Moi.
At hand to welcome him was ODM deputy party leader Wycliffe Oparanya, former cabinet ministers Dr Noah Wekesa, Trans Nzoia County assembly speaker Joshua Werunga, former Minister Fred Gumo and ANC nominated Godfrey Osotsi among others. Raila was in the company of Suna East MP Junet Mohammed and his Ndaragwa counterpart Jeremiah Kioni. The ODM leader held a brief meeting with local leaders led by Saboti MP Caleb Amisi, the only ODM lawmaker in the County.
At Sibanga, Mr Raila reiterated his commitment to transform the Country’s economy through Asimio la Umoja drive. He defended his agenda to roll out social protection program of paying a monthly stipend of Ksh 6,000 to poor families arguing that the country has adequate resources to fund the programme.
“I was a prime minister of this country and I know where the money will come from. My administration will seal off the loopholes where the money is lost,”- Raila Odinga
“I was a prime minister of this country and I know where the money will come from. My administration will seal off the loopholes where the money is lost,” he said. Raila promised to roll out equal education opportunities to the poor children right from primary to university level, arguing that this will help the unprivileged families to overcome rampant poverty. “Every child has a right to affordable education. We will inject more funds in technical Institutions such as technical vocational centres to offer to promote market-based skills to the youth,” he said.
He pledged that his government will revitalize agriculture in Trans-Nzoia county to enhance production and improve earnings for local farmers. “The issues affecting farmers will be addressed and subsidies provided to the farming communities to ensure increased production,” he said. To scale up production and tame exploitation, Raila said transplant systems would be put in place to end cartels in the ministry of agriculture.
He said cartels were walking to banks smiling while farmers who struggled to produce food in the country suffered. “Good systems would be put in place to lock out cartels who have for many years frustrated farmers by benefitting from subsidies,” he said. He said he would offer a solution to the lack of title deeds and squatter problem in the county.
Raila made a second stop at Center Kwanza where he addressed a second rally before heading to Kolongolo. The former Premier addressed mammoth crowds in Mitume, Kitale Kiminini and Maliki on the border of Trans Nzoia and Bungoma counties.
