- Mr Odinga spoke at Chatham House in the UK, just a week after deputy president William Ruto said he knew where he would find the money to pay to the almost 12 million impoverished Kenyans living on less than a dollar a day
ODM party leader, former Prime Minister Raila Amolo Odinga was at pains to explain where he will get money from to pay poor Kenyans Ksh. 6000 each month as promised if he wins the August 9 elections.
Mr Odinga was speaking at Chatham House in the UK, just a week after deputy president William Ruto said he knew where he would find the money to pay to the almost 12 million impoverished Kenyans living on less than a dollar a day.
Mr Raila had earlier told the BBC that President Uhuru Kenyatta had revealed the country was losing Ksh. 2 billion daily to corruption. He said as a start, all he would do was seal the loopholes and raise more than he needs for the social welfare programme.
DP William Ruto and those allied to the Kenya Kwanza Alliance have roundly dismissed Mr Odinga’s programme as unworkable.
Through the Azmio la Umoja Alliance, Mr Odinga is making his 5th and perhaps his best stab at the presidency enjoying the rare support from the incumbent, President Kenyatta and part of his Mount Kenya home-turf.
Mr Odinga will face off Ruto in what many say will be one of the fiercest political contests in the country’s recent history. Many have predicted a seesaw, too-close-to-call tie that could generate a re-run in 60 days when neither side garners 50 plus 1 an eventuality both sides are anxious to avoid.
