Saboti MP Caleb Amisi has called on the government to set up specialized cancer centres across the country to spare Kenyans from the burden of incurring high costs in search of medical redress abroad. Mr Amisi appealed while delivering a KSh 500, 000 contributions by ODM leader Raila Odinga to cater for the medication of Sofapaka midfielder who has a cancerous, soft tissue sarcoma.

“Regrettably, our county governments are wasting funds through corruption instead of investing in such centres that will offer services to patients at affordable rates,” said Mr Amisi who also contributed Sh 100, 000. The St. Anthony’s Kitale alumnus, who has been diagnosed with a cancerous, soft tissue sarcoma, successfully went through three intense chemotherapy sessions at a local hospital in Eldoret will be flown to India for further medication.

The family has so far raised about 1 million shillings out of the targeted sh 2.5 million meant for his treatment abroad. The legislator also called on the government to allow cancer patients to use Cannabis for medicinal purposes saying it will go a long way in boosting the fight against the terminal disease which has claimed many lives.

“I was so close to the late MP Ken Okoth who told me about the benefits of Marijuana in the fight against Cancer. The government should consider legalizing it,” Mr Amisi spoke at Mitume slums in the constituency. He said the use of Marijuana is key in boosting appetite and reducing Nausea which is key to boosting nutrition among cancer patients who require strong body immunity to contain its spread in the body.

“Eating is key in strengthening the body’s capability to fight any infection. If indeed cancer is key on boosting appetite among cancer patients, then they should be allowed to use it,” said Mr Amisi
