Raila And Mudavadi Clash Over Soaring External Debt

Raila Odinga and Musalia Mudavadi seen here during happier days together

Raila Odinga of the Azmio la Umoja has not forgiven Musalia Mudavadi his former key ally in Western Kenya for abandoning him and joining deputy president William Ruto

Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga yesterday told off ANC party leader Musalia Mudavadi over his claims that Kenyans are broke due to a soaring external debt. Mr Odinga, one of the leading Presidential contenders in the August polls accused Mr Mudavadi of failing to stop the debt burden when he was finance minister 1991-1993.

Mr Odinga added that Mudavadi was offering no solution but “was part of the problem” and should step away for my team to “rescue the country”! Mr Mudavadi would however have none of that telling President Uhuru Kenyatta that “Raila is not easy to work with and that he is a heavy burden”! “We thank President Kenyatta for taking up the burden of a carrying Mr Odinga,” said Mudavadi during campaigns in Kirinyaga County.

He said the president would soon “tire” before August and abandon Mr Odinga to his fate! President Kenyatta has announced a retreat to Sagana State Lodge this week for a major pro-Raila campaign targeting voters in central Kenya. Raila Odinga of the Azmio fame has not forgiven Musalia Mudavadi his former key ally in western Kenya for abandoning him and joining deputy president William Ruto. Although Raila still has clout in the western Kenya region, the loss of Mudavadi and FORD Kenya’s Moses Wetangula to Ruto was a numbing blow in a region that has previously backed him almost to a man.

DP Ruto of Kenya Kwanza has since made serious inroads in the west of Kenya assembling outspoken regional kingpins that will be crucial in a tightly fought race. The two-horse race pitting Raila-Ruto has been unfolding with dizzying speed and this week President Kenyatta will be reinforcing Mr Odinga’s troops in central Kenya.

Many have argued the president is already “time-barred” as Ruto’s clout in Mount Kenya is deeply entrenched! They say changing the mindset of people who always speak in one voice five months to an election presents a major challenge.
