The Marakwet professional lobby group has expressed concern over claims by Deputy President William Ruto that there is a plan to rig the August 9th presidential elections.

In a press statement, the lobby group’s interim chairman Dr John Kibosia said that a section of the country was now “tense” over the allegations that the poll would be stolen.

He urged state agencies to probe the claims of a plan to “impose a state project” He said the claims were serious and warranted an independent probe. Mr Kibosia urged President Uhuru Kenyatta to allay fears of a scheme that could plunge the country into post-election chaos.

The group urged both President Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto to close ranks and work towards a peaceful transition. “Let them work towards a peaceful transition like the one that ushered them into power in 2013” warning that the country would judge them harshly if they plunged the country into chaos.

“They found this country in peace they must not leave it on fire,” Kibosia said warning that claims by Ruto should be probed and allegations proven true or false and appropriate remedy found to save the country from going down the route of 2007-08 when a bungled presidential election plunged the country into chaos.
