President Kenyatta’s City Tour Marred by Hecklers

President Uhuru Kenyatta

By The Weekly Vision Online

President Uhuru Kenyatta appeared to beat a hasty retreat on his support for former Prime Minister Raila Odinga during an impromptu rally in Nairobi last weekend.

The President Condemned the recent attack on Mr Odinga’s helicopter by goons in Uasin Gishu County, the goons are widely seen as loyal supporters of deputy president William Ruto of the Kenya Kwanza Alliance.

But of baffling curiosity was his loud silence when his deputy was attacked and his motorcade stoned last year in Busia and Kisumu

Kenyatta laboured on telling a heckling crowd that was interspersed with cheers and jeers in Embakasi that political intolerance between leaders could burn the country. But of baffling curiosity was his loud silence when his deputy was attacked and his motorcade stoned last year in Busia and Kisumu.

The crowd was heard wondering loudly why he never spoke then! Kenyatta went on to stun many when in an apparent about-turn claiming his support for Mr Odinga as his preferred successor did not imply his deputy William Ruto was bad! The head of state appeared to have sensed the hostility from the crowd, most of whom were DP William Ruto’s, he declared he had only one vote and would vote for Mr Odinga!

The doublespeak by the president who has only three months to vacate the powerful office was not lost on many. The head of state appeared to conveniently forget his lengthy discourse at the Sagana 3 in Nyeri where he declared that his deputy could not be trusted with power!
