The Orange Democratic Party is courting Rift valley regional commissioner George Natembeya to fly its gubernatorial flag in the 2022 general elections in Trans Nzoia. The party’s secretary-general Edwin Sifuna who toured Trans Nzoia County on a party leadership harmonization exercise invited Mr Natembeya to join the outfit.

” If you see Mr Natembeya, tell him to join us so that he can face off with other candidates to fly the party’s flag,” he told the officials in Kitale. The move widens the rift with the Ford Kenya party which is backing Kiminini MP Chris Wamalwa for the same position.

Natembeya has been crisscrossing the county in a vote hunt mission aimed at succeeding area Governor Patrick Khaemba in the 2022 general elections. The administrator who is eyeing the Trans Nzoia gubernatorial seat in 2022 also hit out at MPs in the region for failing to address land-related issues in the region through petitions at the national assembly.

“More than 80% of residents of Trans Nzoia have no title deeds. MPs have failed to address this at the floor of parliament to have funds allocated to address this menace yet they are aware that it I’d a change” Mr Natembeya said.

He promised to change the order if elected as governor by ensuring budgetary allocations are prioritised towards addressing the region’s socio-economic challenges instead of financing benchmarking trips

“The essence of leadership is to provide direction and not mere politicking. We will seek to address the challenges that have affected growth in this region owing to a lack of solutions,” said Mr Natembeya.

Saboti MP Caleb Amisi called on the party to ensure that any alliance the party forms do not compromise on its quest to field candidates at local levels.

“We call on the party to ensure that whenever they form alliances with other parties, there should be no victimization for any candidate at the local level,” said Mr. Amisi.
