The Nairobi Metropolitan Services have been advised to adopt a more environmentally friendly garbage collection transport system instead of the filthy open trucks which emit a foul stench and poisoned gases into the atmosphere.
The chairman of the NGO council of Kenya Mr Stephen Cheboi said in a statement, that from the huge revenue collected in East Africa’s largest city, NMS can comfortably afford to acquire more sophisticated modern, clean and orderly trucks to carry out the job.

He said that Nairobi should even borrow a leaf from the much smaller but “very clean” Kigali capital city of Rwanda. Just like it is done in Dubai, UAE, and Sweden, cities that our MCAs have visited on benchmarking trips, why have they not implemented what they learnt?
Nairobi residents, he said, pay huge taxes to NMS and deserve to live in a more “decent and clean” environment instead of the open poorly maintained garbage trucks and street families urinating and defecating in CBD streets and highways!
This he said cannot happen in Kigali or Kampala where city authorities appear to be on top of their game and have a 24-hour tight vigil on keeping the environment clean and orderly.
NMS must walk the talk, he said, and restore Nairobi’s lost glory adding that Kenya hosting major events like the recent world road safari race was testimony to how important the country is as a preferred global destination.
