The National Council of NGOs has supported calls by the National Commission for Cohesion and Integration (NCIC) to be given more powers to uphold peace and harmony during the 2022 election campaigns.

In a press statement council chairman, Mr Stephen Cheboi backed NCIC leader Reverend Philip Kobia’s calls to the government to be given the power to arrest and prosecute politicians engaged in divisive and inflammatory campaigns.

Mr Cheboi said Kenyans are keener on putting bread on the table now and taking their children to school while battling the covid pandemic adding that “we can’t wait for miracles in 2022” when the same leaders have failed to deliver in the last 10 years

Cheboi said NCIC now more than ever has its work cut out for it and is duty-bound to ensure peaceful campaigns before during and after the 2022 elections. Cheboi urged leaders to avoid early campaigns and refocus their energies on the current challenges affecting citizens during the Covid-19 pandemic, insecurity in some parts of the country, lack of school fees for many needy students, food, insecurity, drought, and health among others.

He said Kenyans are keener on putting bread on the table now and taking their children to school while battling the covid pandemic adding that “we can’t wait for miracles in 2022” when the same leaders have failed to deliver in the last 10 years.

Cheboi urged wananchi to audit all leaders from MCAs, MPs, Senators, and Governors who have been getting funding from the national government for local projects. “Have they delivered”? he pondered if not why, he said adding that it can no longer be business as usual for leaders failing to meet public expectations.
