Health officials in Kenya are on a heightened alert following reports of the emergence of a new Covid-19 ‘Omicron’ variant that was first discovered by South African doctors, the variant has also emerged in Malawi and Botswana. 

Kenyan medical officials have warned citizens to strictly abide by the laid down Covid-19 health protocols and get vaccinated in the wake of the new threat. Officials led by health CAS M/S Susan Mochache however assured the country that there was no need to panic. Mochache told a press briefing that the country would not impose a blockade on people coming in from the affected countries.

She stressed that the ministry of health would impose strict testing measures on all new arrivals at the airports and demand vaccination certificates. CS Kagwe slammed Kenyans “business as usual” attitude since President Uhuru Kenyatta lifted the dusk to dawn curfew on Mashujaa day October 20. Covid 19 infections in Kenya are far below the 5 per cent international threshold with less than 1 per cent new patients reported. CS Kagwe has urged matatus, bars, restaurants and supermarkets not to lower their guard, wear a mask, wash hands and get vaccinated, to avoid a new round of a paralyzing lockdown.
