Why do matatu touts assume everyone lives in Rongai
The deafening cacophony of blaring horns and wild screams by matatus touts in Nairobi’s CBD is now cause for major concern with shop owners, supermarkets, and staff in offices demanding the government move in and stop the noise.
The noise is completely unnecessary and irritating to residents who say the heavy noise pollution in Nairobi should be addressed by NEMA (National Environment Management Authority) and should be stopped immediately, shop owners and other stakeholders complain of matatus blocking entry to their shops while howling for passengers most of whom already know which vehicles to board.
The authorities must take action otherwise we are headed for total anarchy; touts even accost people forcing them to board vehicles when they are going about their business. “Why do they assume everyone lives in Rongai?
Why does matatu touts constantly jostle for passengers? A passenger asked, each one of us is aware of where we are going, he said adding that there is a need to regulate the sector which has witnessed rowdy and disciplined people invade the sector.
The authorities must take action otherwise we are headed for total anarchy; touts even accost people forcing them to board vehicles when they are going about their business. “Why do they assume everyone lives in Rongai? A resident asked. Noise pollution centres are Tusker on Ronald Ngala, Tom Mboya and River Road, level of noise pollution and choking from exhaust pipe smoke from vehicles are irritating.
NEMA should “stop sleeping” on the job and ban touting in the CBD. PSVs also play loud ear-splitting music, played with abandon as others with TV monitors openly show offensive pornographic videos to the utter consternation of many passengers some with their children.
