Nairobi residents raise the red flag on bogus Safaricom agents

A van used by the crooks to con innocent people

BY SPECIAL CORRESPONDENT

Residents within Nairobi and its environs have raised an alarm over the rising number of bogus operations being carried out by a team of smooth-talking crooks who claim to work for Safaricom, they swindle innocent victims on their Mpesa accounts right in the streets of Nairobi.

They also claim to have free tablets and smartphones, if only you share with them your M-Pesa “pin’! One of the victims told The Weekly Vision how he was conned

The group works in pairs, they will never show you any identification papers from Safaricom. They wave sealed and branded T-shirts up in the air claiming they are gifts to M-Pesa account holders from Safaricom!

They also claim to have free tablets and smartphones, if only you share with them your M-Pesa “pin’! One of the victims told The Weekly Vision how he was conned, he is now appealing to the authorities to take action against these fraudsters who seem to operate with impunity, he thinks they operate with the protection of crooked police officers since the bold crooks run their operations just outside Safaricom shops! “Why has Safaricom management not reacted, nor police or Nairobi county askaris?” a resident asked.

“Safaricom should warn wananchi about this bogus promotion drive” he declared or else give the promised free tablets and smartphones if indeed the promoters are real.
