Moses Mulomi Complicates Governors’ Race In Busia

Angry residents directed their anger to the Busia County CEC of health Moses Mulomi whom they believe has slept on the job

After ditching Fred Odilo from Bakhayo as his choice for deputy governor and settling for Mr Arthur Odera from Teso North, many voters in the county saw the move as a confirmation that Mr Otwoma and his DP are effectively Ruto’s moles on the Busia County political landscape since Mr Odera is a political Protégée of Deputy President William Ruto

The issuance of a nomination certificate by the Democratic Alliance Party of Kenya (DAP-K) to outgoing Busia County Deputy Governor Moses Mulomi to contest the elections in August has muddied the waters even further for the two-front runner in the race, Dr Paul Otwoma of ODM party and Mr Sakwa Bunyasi of ANC party.

The move by the DAP-K party has forced the two to go back to their political drawing boards to re-draft emergency strategies on how to counter Mr Mulomi’s political chase game. After ditching Fred Odilo from Bakhayo as his choice for deputy governor and settling for Mr Arthur Odera from Teso North, many voters in the county saw the move as a confirmation that Mr Otwoma and his DP are effectively Ruto’s moles on the Busia County political landscape since Mr Odera is a political Protégée of Deputy President William Ruto.

For Mr Mulomi, Mr Dan Mogoria from Teso would be a better choice for DG since both of them are members of DAP-K, however, Mr Mogoria does not seem to be keen, only telling The Weekly Vision Online that he wished Mr Mulomi well

Then there is Nambale constituency legislator John Bunyasi a former World Bank and African Development Bank (ADB) executive who is in the race through the Musalia Mudavadi’s led Amani National Congress (ANC) and former Agricultural Finance Corporation (AFC) Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Lucas Meso from Marachi like Moses Mulomi.

The emergence of Mr Mulomi complicates matters for Dr Otuoma on many fronts, but majorly is the fact that DAP-K is part of the Azimio la Umoja Alliance. Mr Otuoma’s political base in Funyula constituency is shaky with a low number of registered voters.

All these candidates are from the Luhyia community, they have no option but to pick running mates from the Teso community. For Mr Mulomi, Mr Dan Mogoria from Teso would be a better choice for DG since both of them are members of DAP-K, however, Mr Mogoria does not seem to be keen, only telling The Weekly Vision Online that he wished Mr Mulomi well. Mr Mulomi also faces challenges at home in Marachi to secure a solid vote base against Mr Meso of the Jubilee party. Both Mulomi and Meso may end up sharing votes in Butula sub-county to the advantage of Sakwa Bunyasi.
