Missing Covid-19 KEMSA PPEs traced to the border town of Isebania

A huge consignment of Covid-19 Personal Protective Equipment (PPEs) and tons of prescription drugs that we reported here KEMSA accused of dumping substandard masks on city streets and The KEMSA Scam- DCI has yet to arrest anybody as having gone missing has now been tracked to the border town of Isebania in Migori county on its way to Tanzania, informed sources have revealed.

The sources had days ago told The Weekly Vision Online that the assorted PPEs were part of the Ksh. 9 billion Covid-19 reported scandal of 2020 which had been offloaded and dumped for sale on Nairobi streets.

Ministry of health officials and the Pharmacy and Poisons board have in the recent past also launched massive crackdowns on “illegal” chemists. The board’s dragnet working with DCI detectives are said to have discovered the missing KEMSA drugs just as a number of accomplices were finalising cross border transportation to a ready buyer on the Tanzanian side. There are unconfirmed reports which claim that a hospital owned by a former Kenyan MP with dual TZ citizenship was behind the alleged attempt to smuggle the drugs across the border.

The suspect is a former MP who served for two terms before losing in 2017 and was appointed as an ambassador without portfolio but is understood to be on duty in one of the Asian countries. The KEMSA Covid 19 scam in which heavily overpriced PPEs were purchased sold and bought back by a well-connected cartel has remained unresolved to date. At least Ksh. 9 billion was lost and investigations ordered by President Uhuru Kenyatta in July 2020 has grown cold. DCI and DPP remain tight-lipped after it emerged that powerful figures were behind the multi-billion-shilling deal. The scandal is said to have been a major issue of concern raised by US President Joe Biden during President Kenyatta’s recent state visit to Washington.
