Residents of Temba village, Ndivis Ward Webuye in Bungoma County woke up to a great shock after Nickson Matumbai, 61, was found killed and his body dumped in the bush. His son Michael Wafula condemned the incident saying that it was a great blow to the family as the deceased was the sole breadwinner of the family.

“This is a great blow to us as the family because our father is the breadwinner in the family, may those who killed my father find no peace in their lives, father follow them to the bitter end,” he said. Wafula appealed to police officers from Webuye to launch speedy investigations and find the assailants adding that the deceased was a hardworking, focused person and his death has shocked the family, residents and villagers.

Wafula said that the family was woken up by noise from residents who had visited the scene of the crime. “We were at home, we did not know what had happened though our father did not return home after his daily chores,” he said.

He added that according to preliminary investigations, it is alleged that the deceased was murdered by his close friends who later escaped. He said that the body of the deceased was found lying in a pool of blood with injuries on the head, shoulders, hands and face. He said that the objects that the assailants used to kill the deceased were recovered.

His brother, James Makenzi told The Weekly Vision that Chang’aa brewing is high in the area asking police officers to intervene and help end it. It was an incident that was confirmed by area Assistant County Commissioner Charles Banda who said that so far two suspects have been arrested asking residents to be vigilant, work with the police and report suspicious individuals in the area.
