Malava DAP-K parliamentary hopeful Caleb Sunguti has warned politicians from outside the constituency against making frequent forays into Malava Constituency in search of votes.

He cautioned against the practice saying that it has become a habit for some politicians seeking elective seats to make visits there and then make empty promises in return for votes. Mr Sunguti was addressing voters at his home where he said he would lock the sub-county from political scavengers who do not have the interests of the electorates at heart, only interested in their votes.

“During the late Malava MP Soita Shitanda’s tenure, Malava Constituency was respected and protected from political brokers out to misuse our people, but the current weak leadership has failed to bring development which has then led to incidents where outsiders thronged the constituency to coerce us for our votes. Their promises that we should support their endeavours in return for development have never materialized. I intend to safeguard Malava from political parasites and protect our voters from unnecessary political exploitation. Mr Sunguti said he was working around the clock to ensure his votes are safe to enable him to clinch the seat.

He criticized the recent violence where supporters of Mr Malulu and Mr Panyako clashed leading to three people getting injured. He said Mr Malulu’s leadership style was poor and that he has failed to bring positive change to Malava, adding that his time is up. He also stated that he was supporting Kenya Kwanza for the gubernatorial position after what he termed as political blackmail from the Azimio leaders led by Wycliffe Oparanya who has been coming to Malava and belittling him on his political turf.
