A Kenyan innovator has unveiled a new web-based model of a Wi-Fi vending machine that works like the old telephone booth. The machine drastically improves internet speed at quite cheaper rates. Presentation of the machine was made by Mr Bosco Somi during a one day NGO council of Kenya meeting in Nairobi this week.
The Wi-Fi vending machine allows smartphone users to access data and stay on the internet for several hours at a much cheaper cost and works like the telephone booths; you insert coins and then make a call. It’s more or less uses the same concept only that in this case you connect through the machine name and insert coins. The machines can be installed within hospitals, institutions of higher learning, clubs, airports, cyber cafes or any other heavily populated area.
The machines boost a web-based platform that helps you to monitor and at the same time control a wide perimeter of functions, for instance, you can monitor revenue collections remotely
The machine can support or be connected via Local Area Network (LAN) cable or Ethernet as the source of the internet. Among the key advantages of the new locally-assembled Wi-Fi include:
One can sell Wi-Fi for as low as Ksh. 10 for 60 minutes the end-user will get unlimited internet on their devices for 60 minutes. If a client uses 10 minutes of the 60 minutes & switches off the Wi-Fi, they can reuse the remaining time balance even after six months when they get back to the same Wi-Fi coverage and unlike other service providers where you buy bundles of 15mbs at Ksh.10 which expires after 15 minutes.
The machines boost a web-based platform that helps you to monitor and at the same time control a wide perimeter of functions, for instance, you can monitor revenue collections remotely. You can also set download speed, which means that clients will never complain of slow internet as a result of heavy usage by others. You can even block heavy websites that make the Wi-Fi slow. One can also generate new passwords or codes for a day, week or month depending on your contract with clients.
The best places to place it are at hospitals, colleges, universities, clubs, airports, cyber cafes, the list is endless.
