About 80 politicians from Trans Nzoia County who will be vying for various seats as Independent candidates met on Saturday last week to plan on how to unite and deny Kenya Kwanza and Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Alliance’s candidate’s victory during the 9th August election. The Independent candidates will be vying for various elective seats in the county; they had lost in primaries in two major political formations. They said they had formed the ‘’ third political force to emancipate candidates from political conman ship.

“Our team has one common manifesto and agenda for the great people of Trans Nzoia who have for long been conned by political mercenaries gone crazy with unchecked power’’, said Bishop Jim Nduruchi, the caucus chairman who is vying for Trans Nzoia governorship.

Mr Nduruchi said the aspirants had deliberated and made a decision to crisscross the whole county sensitizing voters on the need to vote for personalities and not political parties which had been turned into ‘’ entrepreneurship kiosks out to harvest from where they never planted.

He spoke to The Weekly Vision at the Independents house, Namawanga in Kiminini Sub-county last Saturday after chairing the caucus’ consultative meeting that brought together all the candidates vying for MCA, MP, Senator, women representative and governor.

The caucus expressed disappointment with Azimio and Kenya Kwanza in Trans Nzoia County over the issuance of direct tickets in the nominations. ‘’ This is indeed a revolutionary force which will in the long run end this kind Conman ship which has thrived for far too long. To the two political formations, the time has come for you to fold and go’’, he added. Mr Nduruchi claimed that the April 14 nominations for Kenya Kwanza and Azimio were marred by electoral malpractices citing cases of double voting, and stuffing of ballot papers in some polling stations.

Former finance chief officer in the outgoing governor’s office Professor Ben Wanjala is also vying for the governorship as an independent candidate. Pauline Mukasa whose victory as the UDA party’s Women Representative was revoked and the certificate awarded to the ‘loser ‘Lilian Chebet Siyoi, Pauline faulted Deputy President’s led political outfit for what she said was sidelining popular candidates from other ethnic groups.

‘’ A top UDA official at hustler house told me point black that a mnazi (coconut) cannot be planted in Trans Nzoia, something that angered me. The party owes me an apology for stealing my victory ‘’, she said. Mrs Mukasa who resigned as the Trans nzoia county gender director ‘’ cried foul, terming the nomination process a sham. She accused her rival of allegedly working in cohorts with party bigwigs to promote favouritism; she said many candidates lost huge sums of money through nomination fees.

Mukasa is now vying for the Women’s Representative seat alongside the incumbent, Janet Wanyama Nangabo who was denied the Democratic action Party DAP K ticket which was awarded to Phanice Khatundi. Those seeking parliamentary seats as independent candidates in Endebes are Chamii Jamii Simiyu and Pius Gumo.

Engineer Morei, 27 will be vying for the Senate seat whose current holder, Dr Michael Mbito is trying his luck in Saboti. He is expected to give the incumbent, Caleb Amisi a run for his money. Ms Morei said the time for youths of this country to rule had arrived, noting that youths were no longer stools, chairs or stones for the elderly corrupt to sit.

‘’ As far as I am concerned there were no nominations in some of these parties among them UDA whose presidential candidate I support. It is wrong to give direct tickets to con men and women who will end up getting floored badly’’, she said.
