The fact that the perceived leading presidential aspirants in the 2022 general elections Raila Odinga and Deputy President William Ruto took their political fight to the communities of the former Western province to hunt for votes on the same day is a highly significant development that cannot be ignored.

The move by the two only exposes the extremely high stakes involved in the coming general elections for the presidency and how deep it goes. Political supremacy in the country’s highly monetized political dispensation that recently saw called Waheshimiwas resort to physical fights in parliament over a political bill, is just a tip of a huge iceberg. The two functions in Bukhungu and Mumias just shows how critically important Western votes are in propelling a presidential candidate into office, apart from the Mount Kenya vote it is considered the second leading in vote numbers in the country.

Luhyaland has always played a critical role in electing Presidents of this country right from the founding father of the Nation the late Mzee Jomo Kenyatta, the late Daniel Arap Moi, the massive rebellion in 2002 against President Moi’s chosen successor Uhuru Kenyatta and running mate Musalia Mudavadi.

That was displayed out when Lugari’s ANC legislator Ayub Savula publicly declared his departure from Mudavadi’s OKA to Raila Odinga’s Azimio in the 2022 general elections as Kakamega Senator Malala hosted DP Ruto at Mumias Stadium in a football event that Mudavadi, Wetangula, Gideon Moi and Wipers Kalonzo Musyoka failed to attend.

Musalia Mudavadi of the Amani National Congress (ANC) and OKA is already boxed in and he has no option but to go back to the drawing board if he has not already done so already. The boxing-in first emerged when the late Moi, Kibaki and now Uhuru Kenyatta and William Ruto duped him that they were going to support him in 2013 through TNA/URP for the presidency.

Uhuru Kenyatta and William Ruto were then facing cases at the International Criminal Court (ICC) at The Hague for their alleged involvement in the deadly violence following the 2007 general elections when ODM’s Odinga was considered by many as the winner.

Then came the NASA coalition that eventually saw the man from Mululu boxed in as being Raila’s Chief national campaigner in the last general elections and not a candidate for that seat. COTU boss Francis Atwoli duped him into the Bukhungu 1 declaration, crowning him as the region’s spokesman – a position he has now bestowed to his neighbour and relative, outgoing Kakamega county governor Wycliffe Oparanya.

All these characters, Lugari legislator Ayub Savula, Mumias East Ben MP Ben Washiali, former Nairobi governor Evans Kidero and many others made billions of shillings and in the process killed MSC. The declaration at Bukhungu 11 ahead of the general elections late this year is only confirming that the aspirations for the Presidency, Musalia Mudavadi at Bukhung 1, Raila Odinga at Bukhungu II and the William Ruto at Mumias Complex is simply a powerful manipulative charade controlled by their financial might, political and media connectivity in the fight for The State House.
