President Uhuru is said to have tabled a ‘one term” presidency for ODM supremo Raila Odinga, the suggestion was allegedly rejected by the other co-principals who argued that they had backed the former prime minister enough times
Kitui County Governor Charity Ngilu has joined President Uhuru Kenyatta in calls for former NASA co-principals to unite ahead of the 2022 poll. The president has twice met his former political opponents reportedly urging them to agree on one candidate among themselves to run against Deputy President William Ruto.
Governor Ngilu made this plea when she presided over a universal health programme in her County of Kitui, it is curious to many political watchers that she is attempting to “resurrect” an outfit already in the graveyard of political coalitions. Ngilu they claim appears to be dancing the proverbial “professional mourner” who wept louder than the bereaved.
President Uhuru is said to have tabled a ‘one term’ presidency for ODM supremo Raila Odinga, the suggestion was allegedly rejected by the other co-principals who argued that they had backed the former prime minister enough times. A frustrated president is said to have told them to consult among themselves and report back to him when ready, the delay is said to have prompted Governor Ngilu to intervene, urging them to unite and move like a team of face defeat at the hands of DP William Ruto.
All former NASA kingpins have announced their bid and assured their supporters their names will be on the ballot
Both Ngilu and president Kenyatta seem to be attempting at resurrecting the long-dead NASA coalition. During the burial of former MP Kalembe Ndile, Raila Odinga and Kalonzo Musyoka vowed to stick together in the 2022 duel. The assumption then was a repeat of a Raila-Kalonzo ticket. Instead, the opposite has happened and DP Ruto all smiles as he prepares to face off a “divided” outfit he has accused of having no agenda like the creation of jobs and improving the economy battered by Covid 19.
All former NASA kingpins have announced their bid and assured their supporters their names will be on the ballot. President Kenyatta’s One Kenya Alliance was meant to cobble a coalition against his deputy in 2022 after he steps down. This seems to have failed to work, worsened by the defeat of the BBI case in court.
It seems as if a derisive DP Ruto in his “Hustler Express” is waiting for the D-Day to “politically massacre” his divided foes. A worried Odinga who refused to step down for any of his former NASA colleagues appears to be rethinking strategy after a study by opinion pollsters showed he would lose to Ruto in the Mount Kenya region.
A frantic Raila has swung back to his traditional strongholds in western and coast but many say without the 2017 regional kingpins, he should forget a repeat of the same. ANC Musalia Mudavadi and Wiper’s Kalonzo Musyoka have told Odinga to reciprocate their past support but Raila says he is yet to win and form a government.
