Wiper party’s Chief Executive Officer M/S Agatha Solitei is categorical that if Kalonzo Musyoka is not named as Raila Odinga’s running mate then the deal is off!
Wiper leader Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka is proving to be hard to please in the Kenyan political arena! After managing to change the name of Azimio la Umoja to Azmio One Kenya, he is back again with fresh demands.
Mr Kalonzo who brags of having a following of about 2 million voters now wants to be named Raila Odinga’s running mate as the coalition heads into the August 9th poll.
According to Wiper political party secretariat, Mr Kalonzo, Raila Odinga’s running-mate in 2017, is the “best qualified” having been vice president for 5 years under President Mwai Kibaki, now retired.
Wiper party through its chief executive M/S Agatha Solitei is categorical that if Kalonzo is not named as Raila Odinga’s running mate then the deal is off! This fresh headache to Azimio la Umoja’s presidential torch bearer has started cracking the massive alliance from within.
The Azimio la Umoja Alliance was cobbled together through the support of President Uhuru Kenyatta and was expressly designed to block deputy president William Ruto of the Kenya Kwanza coalition from winning the presidency
The alliance was cobbled together through the support of President Uhuru Kenyatta and was expressly designed to block deputy president William Ruto of the Kenya Kwanza coalition from winning the presidency. Political watchers now say Azimio la Umoja may have bitten more than it could chew in a hurried alliance that brought together 31 political parties and that the “honeymoon” is now over!
The chicken seems to be coming home to roost after three Kamba governors, Prof. Kivutha Kibwana (Makueni), Dr Alfred Mutua (Machakos) and Charity Ngilu (Kitui) fired warning shots at Mr Odinga! Mr Mutua of the Chap Chap political party was on prime time TV where he expressed strong misgivings about the way the Raila-Uhuru alliance was being managed.
Mr Mutua demanded to be treated as an equal in Azimio la Umoja and dismissed Kalonzo Musyoka’s constant demands saying even changing the name to Azimio One Kenya had not been agreed on in the MOU they signed. Mutua accused Raila and Kalonzo of the high handed mistreatment of smaller parties. Mutua was supported by colleagues Kibwana and Ngilu who warned that their support should not be taken for granted.
Kenya Kwanza leader William Ruto appears to be sending feelers at the expected premature fall-out in Azimio la Umoja! Ruto recently told a rally in Makueni that Kalonzo was being “bullied and mishandled” in Azimio and that he should join him in Kenya Kwanza. This growing storm within Azimio if not nipped in the bud could easily implode and derail Raila Odinga’s chances of capturing power.
