Former Kanduyi MP Alfred Khang’ati has said that he is firmly in the Kanduyi parliamentary race pointing an accusing finger at his closest rival, incumbent MP Wafula Wamunyinyi for fuelling propaganda against him.

He was speaking at Sango primary school in Sang’alo East ward in Kanduyi constituency during a funeral service last weekend. Mr Khang’ati said that on Friday, just before the arrival of Azimio la Umoja Presidential flag bearer Raila Odinga in Bungoma there was a lot of propaganda circulating on social media that he is coming to endorse Mr Wamunyinyi to defend his seat as area MP.

Some have been fuelling propaganda that I am sick and I won’t be on the ballot. Let me tell you, my friends, I have enough supporters and I won’t give up on this journey of recapturing the Kanduyi seat,”-Khang’ati

Mr Khang’ati said that when Mr Odinga came, he never mentioned anything to do with Mr Wamunyinyi whose supporters had claimed that he (Mr Odinga) would endorse the Kanduyi MP seat. “On Friday during Raila’s tour in Bungoma, I was waiting to see him endorse Mr Wamunyinyi but I never saw that, I was prepared enough to bring that meeting to a standstill had he taken such a step.,” he said, asking his opponents to sell their agenda without interfering with his.

Hon Wafula Wamunyinyi trashed Khang’ati saying that he has no agenda to tell Kanduyi voters defending himself that Kanduyi is a huge constituency and what he has been able to do is worth the time he has been in parliament

He added, “Some have been fuelling propaganda that I am sick and I won’t be on the ballot. Let me tell you, my friends, I have enough supporters and I won’t give up on this journey of recapturing the Kanduyi seat,” he said. Mr Khang’ati said that MP Wamunyinyi is the longes serving as MP in the region but his work cannot be compared to his (Khang’ati) that he did while he was the MP. He cited Mupeli primary school, Mechimeru health facility, and Mukhaweli primary school as some of the facilities that he initiated when he was the MP.

Hon. Alfred Khang’ati

“During my tenure as MP, I initiated new schools and supported existing ones financially in ensuring that Kanduyi performed well in the national examination,” Khang’ati added. He also said that he was the first lawmaker in Bungoma to purchase computers for primary schools before the Uhuruto government. He noted that if he wins the August election, he will ensure that he supports Nzoia Sugar Industry farmers’ payments. He said that they are both in the Azimio la Umoja one Kenya with Wamunyinyi but everybody will use his means to convince electors to choose him in August.

“I am in ODM and he is in DAP-K, both parties in the Azimio la Umoja umbrella, therefore, nobody has been asked to back one another instead everybody is seeking votes,” he added.

Mr Khang’ati said that if allowed to serve as MP again he will bring sanity during the disbursement of bursaries to Kanduyi learners. He said that Wamunyinyi is scared that he will be defeated, adding that he does night campaigns. While responding to the Former MP during the same event, Wamunyinyi trashed Khang’ati saying that he has no agenda to tell Kanduyi voters defending himself that Kanduyi is a huge constituency and what he has been able to do is worth the time he has been in parliament.

On campaigns, Wamunyinyi is only asking the voters to re-elect him as MP position come August. “Even you voters are serious you cannot be laughing when Khang’ati faults me here, you can see that I am building a class in this school where you are seated now,” he said. However, Wamunyinyi said that DAP- K signed a pact with the Azimio la Umoja where Luhya will benefit more. Wamunyinyi said that he is going to intensify campaigns to ensure that Raila Odinga wins in Bungoma.
