Residents of Sinai slum near Donholm estate in Nairobi were left homeless yesterday after a huge fire gutted down their houses. The fire also spread to shops, schools and churches as the fire brigade battled for hours to put out the huge inferno.

The huge ball of fire erupted as residents were planning to retire to bed after taking supper. Many heartbroken residents claimed they had lost everything and were reduced to homeless; they have to start life from scratch.

Fire brigade trucks sped through the traffic jam prone Jogoo road overlapping through a battery of vehicles but were too late to save anything. The fire was described as a category 1 inferno that burnt through cables igniting furniture and paint plunging the nearby Donholm estate into darkness.
