A fresh storm has engulfed the ODM party in Homa Bay County over the direct nomination certificate that was granted to Women Representative M/S Gladys Wanga.

Former Nairobi governor Evans Kidero has refused to step down as demanded by the party hierarchy in Nairobi and vowed to contest as an independent, declaring he was not part of the “consensus” talks chaired by ODM leader Raila Odinga.

Kidero’s supporters have urged Raila Odinga to let Homa Bay voters decide who their next governor should be in free and fair party primaries

This open defiance against the party leader has kicked up a storm with some local ODM officials insisting that Mr Kidero show respect to Azimio la Umoja’s presidential candidate and back down. Mr Odinga had earlier met other aspirants who he persuaded to step down and back M/S Wanga as the next governor of Homa Bay.

But Mr Kidero’s supporters have urged Raila Odinga to let Homa Bay voters decide who their next governor should be in free and fair party primaries. They insist the party risks suffering a major fall-out in the primaries if it resorts to giving direct tickets to “unpopular” candidates.

They are warning this could further derail Odinga’s presidential bid as voter apathy is growing among party faithful’s who are not happy with the way things are going.
