Former Rift Valley Regional Commissioner George Natembeya’s bid for Trans Nzoia governorship received a major boost after elders from the Cosmopolitan County endorsed him. The elders, drawn from all Communities said they had decided to unanimously support the former administrator to boost the county economy; the devolved unit was leading from the bottom under the present administration

‘’We have unanimously chosen you as an heir to the outgoing governor Patrick Khaemba so that you built on what he started. Pick up the mantle and work for the people and make devolution a reality’’, said Richard Walukano who is the chairman of the Bukusu Elders Council. He said the completion of all stalled and ongoing development projects will help spur economic growth across the rich agricultural zone. Members of all Council of Elders except the Nandi and Sabaot had convened at the Baraka home of the former Rift Valley Regional boss in Kiminini Constituency to give him their blessings and provide political direction to the people of Trans Nzoia.

The Luhya Council of Elders Chairman Patrick Wangamati, former Minister Dr Noah Wekesa, Former MPs Joash Wamang’oli, David Wafula, Trans Nzoia Assembly Speaker Joshua Werunga and former Permanent Secretary Engineer Akute also joined Mr Natembeya at the meeting where they deliberated on development programs needed to jumpstart the ailing county economy. The elders promised to fully support the former administrator to clinch the seat on the August 9th, 2022, General Election and further extended their support to ODM leader Raila Odinga in his presidential quest.

The Iteso Council of elders Patron Alfred Oskuku said, “We have sat down together as elders from the communities. We have analyzed manifestos of all seeking governorship and we have concluded that Mr Natembeya is the best bet for Trans Nzoia’’

“It was great meeting elders from all the communities living in Trans Nzoia County. I am greatly humbled by your support, blessings, and commitment of faith in me and I promise not to let you down’’, he said. Mr Werunga who is running for the office of the Senator for Trans Nzoia said the county had lagged in development for a decade and that it needed a quick political and radical surgery. We must all stand up to be counted by speaking the truth about the underdevelopment this county has undergone at the hands of Ford Kenya party leadership. We must all reject those seeking leadership on Ford Kenya’’, he said.

He hit out at Bungoma Senator Moses Wetangula for impoverishing Trans Nzoia County. Engineer Akute who is the Azimio- One Kenya Secretariat in Trans Nzoia said that all elders were in the same accord that it is only Mr Natembeya who can bring about meaningful development owing to his track record.  “Let us say the truth; Mr Natembeya did a commendable job during his tenure as RC. He has a track record that is unrivalled and it’s time for all residents to vote for him to deliver on his promise of making this County great again’’, he said.

The Iteso Council of elders Patron Alfred Oskuku said, “We have sat down together as elders from the communities. We have analyzed manifestos of all seeking governorship and we have concluded that Mr Natembeya is the best bet for Trans Nzoia’’. They requested Mr Natembeya to form an all-inclusive government to accommodate everyone irrespective of political party affiliation. Mr Natembeya promised that his administration will be all-inclusive to show the full face of Kenya.

He also promised to improve all roads in all the five sub-counties of Trans Nzoia to help spur economic growth. ” I will have to prioritize the construction of roads in all the five sub-counties to make them passable. Most of the roads are in a poor state”, he said.
