Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Noordin Haji is in the eye of a raging storm that could see him being hounded out of office. The family of slain Dutch tycoon Bob Cohen through their lawyers have accused the DPP of shielding alleged killers.

The family says the DPP refused to charge Justice Ole Sankole despite “overwhelming” forensic evidence. They claim phone call details and SMS exchanges showed a “conspiracy” between the judge and principal suspect Sarah Wairimu.

Wairimu is the wife of the late Cohen, she’s accused of allegedly murdering the Dutch tycoon and concealing his corpse in a septic tank, with an accomplice, Justice Ole Sankole who is said to be her lover. Wairimu, according to Dutch family lawyer Emman Omari, exchanged several “suspicious” text messages with Justice Ole Sankole days before the businessman went missing from their home.

The Dutch tycoon’s killing sparked public outrage in Kenya with western envoys and President Uhuru Kenyatta demanding justice for the family

The phone records, the lawyer insists should have led to a “prima facie” case against Justice Ole Sankole who has since obtained court orders blocking his arrest. The Dutch family accuses the DPP of dragging his feet and “tampering” with evidence to “protect” Justice Ole Sankole and his associates. Family lawyers claim some “relatives” of the DPP implicated in the case had gone scot-free!

The family claims that they do not expect justice under the DPP who is “shielding” Justice Ole Sankole and other suspects implicated in the killing. The Cohens have expressed fears that even the main suspect Wairimu could go scot-free!

“Why has the DPP ignored clear phone forensic evidence” the lawyers fumed. DCI Director George Kinoti insists he did his work and forwarded the case to the DPP who is expected to do justice. Cohen’s elderly sister and brother flew in from the Netherlands and have been in Nairobi for the case.

The decomposed body of Cohen was discovered in a septic tank with hands tied at the back after having gone missing for several months. The killing sparked public outrage with western envoys and President Uhuru Kenyatta demanding justice for the family.  President Kenyatta vowed to find and punish the killers but the case has kept dragging in court since early 2020.

Meanwhile, the killers of Kiambu conservationist Stuchburry are yet to be found months after she was murdered in her Karura forest home. The UK conservationist had accused a senior politician of plotting her death after she refused to allow construction of an access road through the forest.
