Deputy President William Ruto's UDA Saboti ward aspirants Leonard Moss, Lucas Naibei and Steve Mutai have accused Endebes MP Dr Robert Pukose and the DP's aide Farouk Kibet for meddling in the ward's primaries

We have been crisscrossing the ward and by extension the whole constituency for the past three years trying to sell our agenda and the Deputy Presidents. We have invested more than 15 million shillings in this effort which is being put in jeopardy now by some ruthless cartels-Lucas Naibei

Three aspirants on the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) Party for Saboti ward in Trans Nzoia County want Deputy President William Ruto’s aide Farouk Kibet and Endebes MP Robert Pukose to keep off from the party primaries for the ward seat. The three, Lucas Naibei, Leonard Moss and Steve Matui said the two had allegedly planned to give a direct ticket to an unpopular aspirant.

‘’The people you are seeing here including four others that are not here are in utter shock after realizing that there are forces out to jeopardize plans of the party conducting credible, free and fair polls’’, said Naibei. Naibei added: We have been crisscrossing the ward and by extension the whole constituency for the past three years trying to sell our agenda and the Deputy Presidents. We have invested more than 15 million shillings in this effort which is being put in jeopardy now by some ruthless cartels.

They said the failure of the Deputy President to intervene in the matter will lead to the party ending up losing all ward seats in the county. They singled out Endebess MP Robert for meddling in the affairs within the Saboti constituency where he had planted his cronies

They gave the party an ultimatum to have the exercise done transparently devoid of deal cuttings from brokers out to frustrate those yearning for change. Naibei told Deputy President Dr William Ruto to personally take charge of the process to have legitimate leadership put in place. ‘’ We want to request our party leader, Deputy President William Ruto to take personal responsibility and have a verifiable exercise. He should not allow criminals who want to put his presidency on the line by providing wrong results’’, he said.

They said the failure of the Deputy President to intervene in the matter will lead to the party ending up losing all ward seats in the county. They singled out Endebess MP Robert for meddling in the affairs within the Saboti constituency where he had planted his cronies. ‘’ I wish to ask the member of parliament for Endebess Constituency Robert Pukose to keep off the affairs of Saboti constituency and instead concentrate on his constituency where he is walking on a tight rope’’, said Moss.

Matui asked the UDA National elections Board Chairman Anthony Mwaura to send leaders among them MPs Kamau Ichungwa, Didmus Barasa, and Mr Ndindi Nyoro to oversee primaries in the electoral ward, warning that they will not allow the Endebes legislator to set foot in Saboti.’’ The National Elections Board Chairman Anthony Mwaura and the Party leader should dispatch leaders with unquestionable party loyalty to come and conduct primaries here in Saboti. Our good brother Robert Pukose should be told not to interfere in the process, Saboti is not an electoral ward in Endebes’’, said Matui.

They further accused Dr Pukose of meddling in primaries in Endebess, Kinyoro, Makutano and Chepchoina wards where sitting MCAs had been rigged out. ‘’The cartels stuffed up boxes with marked papers rigging out our majority leader. Our brother Pukose, we will use all our resources to send you home come 9th August’’, said Naibei. They said the actions of the MP and other political power brokers had painted the party wrongly as an establishment that infringes on the democratic rights of those seeking elective posts. They further said their requests for fair primaries still stood despite reports that already someone had been issued a nomination certificate.

Dr Pukose is yet to issue any statement on the matter, with the aspirants demanding that he keeps off electoral wards in the sub-county which they said is the bedrock of UDA. They said they had given the party leadership a chance to salvage the situation or risk losing all seats in the sub-county.
