The Deputy President now plans to use the foreign trip to “re-invent” his struggling Presidential bid after President Uhuru Kenyatta ignored him

By The Weekly Vision Online

Deputy President William Ruto who is on a 12-day trip to the USA and UK has not clarified whether he is there in his official capacity or on a private visit. His communication team in Nairobi simply announced that the DP will be away for more than a week following invitations he received to speak at various forums.

DP Ruto is battling to succeed Uhuru Kenyatta as President; he suffered a major blow after his boss declared support for opposition leader Raila Odinga as his preferred presidential candidate at Sagana State Lodge in Nyeri County a week ago. President Kenyatta spoke at length in vernacular, deriding his deputy for undermining the government from within, while allegedly amassing a fortune from corrupt deals.

The trip abroad is meant to “revitalise” the DP as he comes to terms with the ” thankless betrayal” from a former close confidante and political ally of many years. Many are still at a loss on how to explain the fall-out between the two men, once close buddies who enjoyed some good chemistry

An angry president lashed out at a section of the church leadership for helping “launder” “proceeds of corruption” warning that they would burn in hell! A section of church leaders has since told him off. Sources close to the DP divulged to The Weekly Vision Online that DP Ruto was “shell shocked” by the attacks directed at him from the president, worsened off by his support for Raila Odinga. Matters have not been helped by the president later joining the Azmio grand alliance with his jubilee troops and even donning a cap and cheering ODM delegates.

The trip abroad is meant to “revitalise” the DP as he comes to terms with the ” thankless betrayal” from a former close confidante and political ally of many years. Many are still at a loss on how to explain the fall-out between the two men, once close buddies who enjoyed good chemistry as a political duo who rose from the ICC ashes of 2012 to political glory 2013-2017. But Ruto, who is often given to emotional outbreaks like when he wept before a church in 2014 and had to be comforted by his wife Recho, is a dynamic politician who knows how to press the right buttons at the right time.

Even Raila Odinga has privately admitted that he will be facing a formidable opponent in the August 9th poll. Ruto’s political strategists are planning to milk his return from his overseas tour for whatever it is worth, well aware of the massive alliance of parties president Kenyatta has cobbled in “operation stop Ruto”!
