How can he claim that there is a scheme to rig election by the government in which he is number two in command?
A Kenya lecturer at United States International University (USIU) Prof. Herman Manyora has demanded that deputy president William Ruto should face treason charges for claiming that there is a scheme to rig the next presidential election.
Mr Manyora who is also a political commentator on TV took issue with remarks attributed to the DP during his tour of the US to the effect that President Uhuru Kenyatta was planning to rig the August 9th presidential election. The DP claimed that president Kenyatta intends to impose former Prime Minister Raila Odinga on Kenyans as the next president.
As Kenya’s second in command he has subjected the country to “irreparable international disrepute” and demeaned the national leadership-Mr Manyora
“How can he claim that there is a scheme to rig election by the government in which he is number two in command? Telling this to a foreign government!” pondered the scholar. The political commentator was speaking during a debate on Citizen TV breakfast show. He said as Kenya’s second in command had subjected the country to “irreparable international disrepute” and demeaned the national leadership” in which he is still serving, draws monthly wages and allowances. “Ruto should either resign immediately he lands back at JKIA or be arrested and charged for treason,” he said.
The scholar echoed sentiments made by several ODM leaders including Junet Mohamed and national chairman John Mbadi. They derided Ruto for going to “cry out to wazungus” over rigging claims instead of addressing his concerns with the IEBC.
Junet told the DP to immediately go to IEBC offices at Ambank house on landing back and DCI offices on Kiambu to lodge his complaints. “He cannot be spending taxpayer’s money gallivanting abroad and painting the same country in a bad light?” fumed Mbadi. Jubilee’s Kanini Kega took on the DP for squandering taxpayer’s money on a 12-day visit that has brought nothing back to the country in terms of business opportunities and investments.
“Allegations about possible post-election chaos only serves to scare away tourists” Kega pointed out.
