“It is time for change and not jokes. I ask on behalf of the people of Nambale that you vote for Azimio.”-Nambale Constituency MP aspirant Benard Nandieki

A crowd attending a political rally in Busia county was yesterday treated to a spectacle when an aspirant for MP committed a career-ending blunder by inadvertently asking them to vote for a rival Presidential candidate in the coming elections.

The drama unfolded at Nambale’s bus park where the Kenya Kwanza Alliance principals held their political rally when UDA’s Nambale Constituency MP aspirant Benard Nandieki surprised the crowd when he told them to vote for Azimio la Umoja.

After a few seconds he realised he’d made a mistake then quickly tried to correct himself but it was too late, the crowd went wild with shouts of yes,Yesss. Deputy President William Ruto, ANC party leader Musalia Mudavadi, Ford Kenya’s Moses Wetangula and Busia County gubernatorial aspirant Sakwa Bunyasi were left shell shocked at the turn of events.

Mr Nandieki said “Hii ni wakati wa change not jokes. Nawaomba kwa niaba ya wananchi wa-Nambale mpigie Azimio,” which loosely translates to “It is time for change and not jokes. I ask on behalf of the people of Nambale that you vote for Azimio.”

Whether by default or not, the reality on the ground especially in Busia County is that Raila Odinga and his ODM party call the shots here. Mr Odinga enjoys massive support in the county and he’s expected to easily carry it in the August elections.
