Unconfirmed reports indicate that Deputy President William Ruto has run out of cash, a source told The Weekly Vision Online. The report comes soon after the Deputy President made an announced visit to Dubai last week, he was accompanied by MP Oscar Sudi in what the source said was an attempt to source for campaign funds. The source also added that the DP made a secret visit to the Italian island of Sicily where he allegedly met some unknown individuals.

On Sunday the DP said that he will no longer contribute to any funds drive until the August general election is concluded, perhaps confirming the allegations by the source.  He spoke at a church service in Emuhaya, Vihiga County, where he stressed that he will not take part in the exercise; perhaps taking cover behind the law which he added does not allow him to conduct harambees during the electioneering period. The DP, however, noted that he will resume contributing to Harambees once the elections are concluded.

Not so long ago, some MPs would go for 300k stipend in Karen on most weekend, so as to donate the same in DP Ruto’s harambees. The DP’s handouts to individuals MPS and some groups led to jostles for a share, leading to fights that have since caught the attention of national security agencies. Kericho County Senator Aaron Cheruiyot was reported on January 12, 2020, by a local daily insinuating that the DP could be broke.

“I have heard about your plan to build a church and you all know me as a man who contributes to building churches. Today, however, I will not be contributing to the construction of your church because the election laws do not allow it, but once we are done with the elections, I commit myself that we will come back and ensure the construction of the church is completed,” DP Ruto said.
