The Azmio la Umoja coalition that endorsed former Prime Minister Raila Odinga as a presidential aspirant for the 5th time has now evolved into a huge political machine, sending cold shivers down the spine of the DP and his brigade

Many of the people who listened to Deputy President William Ruto speaking at a political rally in Thika last Saturday are now fully convinced that he has completely burnt bridges with his former comrade in arms, President Kenyatta.

This is a clear sign of the thankless nature of politics and the jinx that has haunted the occupiers of the number two slots in Kenya since independence in 1963.

“Thrice I stood with you when your presidency was threatened. At the ICC, I was the shoulder you leaned on. Now your reward is to fight me through the system.” Those were the words of a bitter DP William Ruto when he spoke at a rally in President Uhuru Kenyatta’s home county of Kiambu.

Addressing a cheering crowd an, emotional DP bared it all out lambasting the president for “tormenting and torturing” him and his allies who stood with him through thick and thin when his “handshake” allies were bitterly trying to kick him out of office.

A helpless and seething Ruto has had to watch helplessly the man he has stood with since the 2013-2117 hotly contested elections, cobble together a coalition of more than 29 political parties. The Azmio la Umoja coalition that endorsed former Prime Minister Raila Odinga as a presidential aspirant for the 5th time has now evolved into a huge political machine, sending cold shivers down the spine of the DP and his brigade.

There is little doubt that the alliance mooted by President Kenyatta has sent the Ruto camp back to the drawing board. “Baba the 5th” Azmio rallying slogan is presenting the DP for the first time since 2018 with a massive challenge he believes is largely due to support from President Kenyatta to the ODM leader.

A frustrated Ruto, just fresh from a 12-day visit to USA and UK is reading the writing on the wall quite clearly. Many have pondered why so many leaders have ganged up against him. The realization that it will be no walk in the park is now more than a certainty for Ruto’s hustler bandwagon that still holds a massive support base in Uhuru Kenyatta’s Mount Kenya region.

But the president has vowed to turn tables on the DP in Central Kenya which remains to be seen as the odds keep multiplying with each passing day.
