Deputy President William Ruto said Tuesday that the handshake between President Uhuru Kenyatta and Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Presidential candidate Raila Odinga is responsible for the high cost of living.

He said the handshake had made it impossible for the Jubilee administration in which he served as deputy president to cushion Kenyans against the high food prices. ‘’The cost of living is a reality that Kenyans all over the country are grappling with. We must do something to alleviate the lives of our people’’, he said. He noted that the Marambach settlement scheme land will be de-gazetted to enable beneficiaries to get land titles to do agribusiness which he said was Kenya’s cornerstone.

Agriculture which he said was the main component of the Big Four Agenda had not been fully realized due to the handshake between the two. He pointed out agriculture has the quickest return on any investment adding that it has the highest multiplier effect on all the other sectors including job creation, agro-processing amongst other sectors ‘’We indeed lost the opportunity to have the Big Four Agenda realized due to the interference from Mzee wa Kitendawili and this is why the price of maize and other commodities has shot up abnormally’’, he said. The Second in command was speaking in Kitalale in Saboti where he popularized his bid for the Presidency. He said that in their Kenya Kwanza Manifesto they had identified agriculture as the solution to the high cost of living noting that it is the most competitive sector in the country.

Ford Kenya leader Moses Wetangula who accompanied the DP in his Trans Nzoia tour claimed the recent opinion polls carried out by Trends and Insights (TIFA) were manipulated in favour of Azimio one Kenya leader Mr Raila Odinga

“If we go back, why we have as Kenya Kwanza identified agriculture as the place where we can not only reduce the cost of living, but we can also increase incomes and facilitate agro-processing value addition and the whole value chain of manufacturing, is because agriculture has very quick returns,” he said. He promised to lower the prices of farming products, among them fertilizer if elected in the August 9 General Election. “There must be access to fertilizers that a farmer can afford. Now I want to announce here in Kitalele that fertilizer prices will decrease from Sh6,000 to the Sh2,000  we used to know, starting this year when elected as President’’, he said.

He said the move was part of the Kenya Kwanza government’s plan to cushion farmers against the high cost of planting. Ford Kenya leader Moses Wetangula who accompanied the DP in his Trans Nzoia tour claimed the recent opinion polls carried out by Trends and Insights (TIFA) were manipulated in favour of Azimio one Kenya leader Mr Raila Odinga.

‘’These are fake opinion polls tailored to hoodwink Kenyans to think that Azimio leader Raila Odinga is ahead when indeed he was trailing Ruto’’, he said. The pollster revealed in its report that Azimio one Kenya Presidential flag bearer Raila Odinga was leading the pack at 42 per cent followed by Deputy President William Ruto of Kenya Kwanza. Ford Kenya Secretary General Chris Wamalwa who was also present said he would prioritize the establishment of a fertilizer fund that will help cushion farmers against harsh economic times if elected governor. The DP was accompanied by Starehe MP Charles Njaqua, Laikipia Women representative Cate Waruguru, Former Senator Henry Ole Ntiema and outgoing Trans Nzoia governor Patrick Khaemba.
