Mzee Jackson Kibor is no more, having died quietly at his ranch near Eldoret. In life, businessmen cut a classic image of Okonkwo in character and personality for those familiar with Chinua Achebe’s classic novel “Things fall apart”.

But Mzee Kibor, unlike Okonkwo who committed suicide to escape murder charges, died a largely full-filled man of natural causes having acquired massive wealth, a large family, and several wives and concubines almost to rival the Biblical Solomon!

The court dismissed his plea, having ruled that at their advanced age, there was no compelling reason for a divorce

Like Solomon, Mr Kibor tried to divorce his wife of 47 years on three occasions. He took in a younger bride half his age; he failed in his bid to annul his traditional marriage. The court dismissed his plea, having ruled that at their advanced age, there was no compelling reason for a divorce.

But the old man remained obstinate appealing the decision before later falling out with some of his children whom he also took to court over the family property including his vast acres of prime land. Two years ago, Jackson Kibor announced that he was ready for his death. Kibor said he was ready to die after living the best life he could, tumultuous and satisfying. He said he had seen it all, done it all. “I have done all that I could and in the best way possible. I guess no one can say I am a bad person and when God takes me away any time now, I will have no regrets,” Kibor said.

He was a self-made rags-to-riches man who used to drive a truck ferrying potatoes but said his first jobs were too degrading to mention. In a recent news interview, Kibor said he only drinks one beer a week, wakes up at 6 am and walks a lot.
