Defence Cabinet Secretary Eugene Wamalwa has called out Deputy President William Ruto for threatening President Uhuru Kenyatta. ‘’I have heard someone threatening the Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces of Kenya. We do not want a leader full of witch-hunt, let’s pray for our leaders and country so that we live in peace’’, he said.

The CS who spoke in Amuka in Kwanza Sub County in Trans Nzoia also warned some communities in Trans Nzoia for threatening others for not supporting candidates from different political formations. ‘’Mswahili husema akumulikaye mchana usiku atakuunguza, those who thrive in thinking that this county belongs to them alone would better know that this is a small Kenya’’, he said about members of a political formation whose leaders he said were threatening others.

Former Forestry Minister Noah Wekesa vowed to make sure Chris Wamalwa fails to become governor during the 9th August election

He cautioned a section of Kenya Kwanza leaders from the North Rift who have recently been using abusive language against the President and other leaders in the Azimio One Kenya Alliance. “Any threat to President Kenyatta, other leaders and communities one feels doesn’t subscribe to his or her political ideologies is a recipe for chaos. We must stop this behaviour and live as one’’, said the CS. Mr Wamalwa said it was in bad taste for the Deputy President to continue attacking the President and those supporting Azimio Presidential Candidate Raila Odinga.

He attributed the country’s rapid economic growth to President Kenyatta’s reform agenda and told off those trying to outdo the achievements reached during President Kenyatta’s term. He asked residents of Trans Nzoia to continue praying for peaceful coexistence and unity of all, saying it would be difficult to achieve development goals in the absence of peace. He said some politicians from the North rift had developed a habit of inciting Trans Nzoia residents during their campaign meetings. He told them to preach cohesion among residents of the cosmopolitan county instead of causing unnecessary political and tribal division.

“Some leaders coming from neighbouring counties have embarked on ill-motivated campaigns of inciting communities. They should stop and start thinking as leaders and not tribal chiefs ‘’, he said. Former Forestry Minister Noah Wekesa who spoke at the same meeting hit out at Kiminini MP Chris Wamalwa for being disrespectful to elders and other political leaders opposed to his gubernatorial bid. He vowed to make sure Chris Wamalwa fails to become governor during the 9th August election. I have a bone to crack with Chris for calling me names, he will not become governor when I’m still in this county’’, he said. Wekesa accused Ford Kenya leader Moses Wetangula of allegedly draining Trans Nzoia County resources.

Trans Nzoia Assembly speaker Joshua Werunga

Former west lands MP Fred Gumo said it was wrong for one to use abusive language against other leaders. “It isn’t good to abuse people you feel don’t subscribe to your political ideology. The likes of Mandago, Sudi, Murkomen and Koti Moja should be told that Trans Nzoia is cosmopolitan’’, he said. Trans Nzoia Assembly speaker Joshua Werunga noted that so many people in the county had suffered the worst historical injustice in matters of land with only one community benefiting as others got left to squat on markets.

‘’ I will prioritize the allocation of land to squatters and other landless people if elected the next Senator of Trans Nzoia. We will seek to have huge acres of land whose leases are expiring to settle them’’, he said. To protect those who will be given land, the Speaker said title deeds need to be issued to deter land grabbers who take advantage of the judicial system to deny the poor un-informed people their rightful land.
