Huge political cracks have emerged in the Kenya Kwanza coalition in Bungoma County after Bumula MP Mwambu Mabonga withdrew from the joint rallies that took place in the Constituency on Monday. UDA aspirants in Bumula Constituency have decried neglect from their Ford Kenya counterparts led by Bungoma Senator Moses Wetang’ula and gubernatorial aspirant Ken Lusaka.

On Monday, the Kenya Kwanza team had organized a rally that was to traverse Bumula Constituency and engage with residents to hunt for votes but on the same day, MP Mwambu Mabonga posted on his Facebook account and stated that; “I wish to inform all our UDA candidates, Independent and UDA party supporters of my decision to withdraw from the Kenya Kwanza mashinani tour that was today (Monday) in Bumula Constituency,” he stated. He continued, “This decision comes in a wake of deliberate moves by Ford Kenya party to downgrade the tour to a one-party affair,”

The MP posted this massage on his Facebook page

He added, “I apologize to our UDA supporters for this unprecedented move and advise them to keep off these rallies, I will advise on our plans for the remainder of this campaign period. ” Mr Mwambu claims that Ford Kenya party is only campaigning for their parliamentary aspirant in Bumula Mr Augustine Luketelo and the Ford Kenya MCA aspirants, unlike him who is campaigning for Senator Wetang’ula and Ken Lusaka.

UDA party fielded MCA candidates in all the seven Wards of Bumula Constituency and are all backing MP Mwambu’s re- election. All the UDA aspirants in the seven Wards and Independent candidates supporting MP Mwambu boycotted the Ford Kenya rallies pledging to work with the MP. Mr Mwambu says that he is firmly behind Ruto’s state house bid adding that he won’t hold joint rallies with affiliate party Ford Kenya in the Kenya Kwanza coalition.
